I know it seems like I’m missing the point here but is he wearing a Versace? Seems like a strange thing for someone with a desire to kill westerners to wear.

I was amazed that the news reports managed to mention Al Qaeda so quickly before anybody claimed responsibility. Asumptions that early on just seem pointless. When we had a (very small scale, failed) terrorist attack in Exeter this year the local police described the perpetrator as having been “preyed upon and radicalised by others” within a few hours of the attack. This was before any kind of investigation.

It’s also weird that the national news didn’t even mention the attack (the Exeter one, not Mumbai) until religion was mentioned at which point they were all over it like a rash.

I’m only 60 pages into this book, and already I want to recommend it to everyone. It has re-ignited my childhood fascination with science, explaining even the most unintuitive concepts in a way that makes the universe seem mysterious and exciting once again. Brilliant bedtime reading.

The only downside with this book is that it’s too stuffed with amazing facts. I have to stop reading it every few pages and try to let my brain catch up.

Here’s my original submission:

“I might have time for one book a week, if I’m lucky, which makes fifty-odd a year. In fifty years I might get through a mere twenty-five hundred books, assuming I live that long. Just twenty-five hundred in an entire lifetime of reading! So tell me, exactly why do you think I should be wasting my time on this?” you ask, slamming the hardback down on the table. “Gerald,” sighs the author. “Please stop coming to my book signings.”

It seemed to me the repetition of Gerald added just about killed it. Over-reaction?

I’m with you on this, the reveal is kind of bungled in their edit. It’s still great though.

I can’t even listen to this song all the way through without getting in a major downer so this video is just too much. The first song on the Glasvegas album is similarly heartbreaking.

This story is completely inaccurate. Where I come from, it’s the night after Thanksgiving when all the 20-somethings go out and run into people they haven’t seen since high school. (It’s also the biggest bar night of the year in Princeton, N.J.)

I’m getting this burr Coffee grinder for Christmas (or my birthday, same week so they roll into one) and I can’t wait to use it. Coffee + gadget, what more could you want?

We got it for a steal as well (about half price) as everywhere has had 20%+ off to try and encourage us cash strapped Brits to get our wallets out.

I’ve just managed to catch this tonight on BBC iPlayer (link — the ballet itself starts at about 29:30). It’s simply sublime an moved me to tears.

The choreography is beautiful, athletic, and graceful. Typical McGregor motifs of jerky shoulders and locked hips are interspersed with wonderful sweeping movements. The pinnacle comes towards the end when a female dancer breaks down in tears in the middle of a crowded stream of strangers.

Max Richter’s score is a revelation. Samples of short-wave radio combine with string quintet and piano in an ethereal blend of old and new. Absolute perfection.

The stage is dominated by a massive video installation by Julian Opie. Simple silhouettes of men and women walk across the stage with a smooth, languid, gait. Serene and unaffected by the turmoil and emotion performed beneath they walk on unaware. Uninterested.

These three elements, choreography, score & set, combine to create an incredibly moving experience. Infra, preceded by a behind-the-scenes look at it’s creation is available on BBC iPlayer until Saturday 29 November. Even if you think you don’t like ballet or dance this has to be a must see.
